May 2, 1952 - May 28, 2021
Wife. Mother. Daughter. Sister. Aunt. Friend. Linda ("Lynn") Grant Anderson was born on May 2, 1952, in Camilla, Georgia, to parents Mary Alice Grant and Eddie Grant, Jr. Her parents left the South when she was a baby, settling down in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Lynn grew up in Philly and graduated from Roxborough High School in June 1969, just a few weeks after her 17th birthday. From there, Lynn attended Roxborough School of Nursing and fell in love with the man who would become her husband of 49 years, Leon ("Lee") M. Anderson of Hinesville, Georgia. Lynn and Lee married on November 14, 1971, and had three children: sons Bryen and Timothy, and daughter Jasmine. Growing tired of the snow and wanting a life on the beach, Lynn and Lee packed up the kids and everything they owned in a U-Haul trailer hitched to the back of their blue Cadillac, and headed South to Florida in 1986. After a few years of living in Fernandina Beach, Lynn, Lee, and the kids grew roots in Jacksonville. Lynn remained a resident of Jacksonville until God called her home on May 28, 2021. Lynn was smart, fun, and fearless. She built a successful career in nursing from scratch, starting out in nursing homes, and working all the way to becoming the Director of Medical Management at Anthem, Inc., and the Director of Case Management at Memorial Hospital of Jacksonville. Lynn never let any obstacle stand in her way. She fought to be seen as an equal, despite being one of the few black women in nursing management. She often hired women of color into significant roles, so that they too could launch their nursing management careers. Her intelligence and wit left you with no choice but to love and respect her talents. Her best friends Jane Pappas and Latrese Tunsill described her best, "Lynn was a great woman." Lynn was preceded in death by her parents Mary Alice Grant and Eddie Grant, Jr. She leaves behind her husband of 49 years, Lee Anderson, children Bryen Anderson, Timothy Anderson, and Jasmine Anderson, grandsons Timothy and Isaiah, sisters Sheila Grant and Phyllis Grant-Cook, nieces Davita Pray-Burwell and Lauren Frazier, and her cousins, great-nephews, in-laws, and friends. "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." 2 Corinthians 5:8. You did good, Lynn. Rest well in the arms of the Lord, and we will see you again.
