Alec Markland, beloved friend, son, and brother, passed away Friday, April 22, 2022, at his home in Jacksonville, FL. He was 29 years old.
Alec was born Alexander Credence Markland in 1993 in Martinsville, Virginia, to parents Leslie and Charles Markland. He was an avid reader and gamer who loved to help others and make people laugh. His earliest memories included exploring nature with his sisters, Ashley Carrington Shaw and Adrian Casey Gaultney, inventing games, and watching movies.
He graduated from the Marine Science Educational Center in 2011 with a passion for fishing and a love for people and animals. He rescued and homed many strays, animals, and friends alike. That's just who Alec was--always caring first and foremost about the wellbeing of others.
His sisters, Carrington and Casey, who fondly referred to him as "Woobie" (a play on the expression "Little Love"), will cherish his memory in each page and every scene of the books and movies they loved and shared.
His friends described him as "the funniest person I know" and "an all-around great guy, genuine and kind, he would give you the shirt off his back and wanted nothing more than to make you laugh."
Alec is mourned by his parents, sisters, and the countless friends whose lives he touched during his brief time here on earth.
A memorial service will be held on May the 4th, at 6:00 p.m. at Naugle Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1203 Hendricks Avenue in Jacksonville.
He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.
Alec, may the force be with you.
