On Friday, March Twentieth, 2026, Spring's Equinox, we said goodbye to Allison Ingram David, aged 87 in Jacksonville, Florida. She left us peacefully, with her daughter by her side, in a sunset of her love for friends and family, for her beautiful home and its lively center and stunning river sunsets in San Marco, her love of dogs and her absolute certainty of their communication with us humans, her knowledge and love of flowers and gardening, her artistic talent in sewing, her compassionate care of the elderly, her love of antiques and all things beautiful and her passion for music of all kinds.
She especially loved All Saint’s Episcopal Church, with its caring congregation, and glorious music in which she shared her distinct voice and her choir background. She deeply appreciated the support the church and congregation gave her after the death of her beloved son Geoffrey in 2006 and the previous deaths of her husbands.
Allison Jewell Ingram was born in Boston, Massachusetts on April 11, 1938, the daughter of Henry, a Naval Architect and passionate sailor and Helen, an adventurous artist and an avid kayaker. Allison was educated at the Mary Wheeler School in Rhode Island and Simmons College in Boston. Her father’s Naval career, and his long active-duty overseas absence during WWII, kept the family on the move during her childhood, from Hingham to Washington DC and its Virginia suburbs, to Paoli, Pa to San Francisco and back again to the East Coast. The family finally returned to and settled in the lovely South Shore town of Hingham, Massachusetts where Allison spent her time ice skating in its marshes and sailing and racing in its beautiful harbor, along with sister Ellie and brother John.
In 1960 Allison married Bruce Eugene Herbert, from New York City, a Navy pilot, and they moved to NYC, settling on the Upper East Side. Their daughter Caroline was born there. Allison, Bruce and Caroline greatly enjoyed living in NYC in those early years. Bruce was later transferred to Jacksonville, Florida where their son Geoffrey was born. Their marriage ended in divorce. Allison later married Edward S. David in Jacksonville, also from NYC, a kind and warm soul who passed away from cancer in 2000. In subsequent years she shared her time with Jimmy Pittman, from Jacksonville, Florida.
Ingrams, Gavins, Hillkirks, Herberts, Davids, and Pittmans, among many others past and present - we reach out to you, Allison, and remember your shining blue eyes, generous smile, lively voice, and mischievous optimism in spite of everything otherwise at times. We thank her daughter Caroline and family, Caroline’s dear friends, Marie Claudette, Allison’s loyal and loving caregiver and Community Hospice for their patience, generosity and support in bringing us all to this point of farewell at life’s end and our ongoing joy in knowing Allison.
She is survived by her daughter Caroline (John) Hillkirk, grandchildren John (Jack) Christian and Grace Isabel Hillkirk, her brother John G. Ingram (Tamar) and many loving nephews and nieces. Allison was predeceased by her son Geoffrey, her sister Eleanor, and husband Bruce E. Herbert and Edward S. David.
A funeral service will be held at All Saint’s Episcopal Church, Jacksonville, Florida, at 11:00 am on April 17th, 2026. The family thanks everyone for their support and love during this time.
