Anthony ‘Bruce’ Kujawa, 63, of Jacksonville, FL passed away on May 4th after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Bruce was born on August 6th, 1958, at St. Vincent’s Riverside in Jacksonville, FL and grew up on the southside of Jacksonville. After Bruce graduated from Bishop Kenny High School in 1976, he went on to study business at The University of Florida where he earned a master’s degree from the Warrington College of Business.

Bruce returned to Jacksonville and began work at Blue Cross Blue Shield, launching a long career as a Director and VP at several healthcare service companies in Jacksonville. He also served as a religion teacher at his Bishop Kenny for several years.

Bruce was passionate about sports. He was a softball umpire and high school basketball referee and made annual pilgrimages with friends to watch the NCAA Basketball tournaments. He was also a regular at every Florida Gator football and basketball game for many years. But his true passion was serving as an Assistant Coach at Bishop Kenny, where he become a mentor and friend to hundreds of players over several decades of service.

Bruce was loved by all, and everyone who met him was instantly charmed by his smile, his authenticity, and his genuine care for others. Bruce would be the first person to jump in the water to save you if you were drowning but would not stay to receive a medal for his heroic act. He was humble and real and he will be missed.

Bruce was predeceased by his beloved father, Anthony in 2011 and most recently his mother Virginia in 2021. He is survived by his sister, Sherry Czerniejewski; niece, Jeanna Czerniejewski; nephew Eric Czerniejewski, and countless co-workers, friends, neighbors and former players whose lives Bruce touched throughout his life.

Services will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on May 26 at 11 a.m. A reception will follow in the Holy Family Parish Hall at noon. Friends of Bruce are also encouraged to participate in a friendly gathering at Mudville Grille, located at 3105 Beach Blvd. on Friday, May 27 at 7p.

In remembrance of Bruce’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Bishop Kenny Athletics and/or White Oak Conservation, two organizations Bruce regularly supported.
