On Thursday, January 7, 2021, Barbara Corbett Van Landingham, loving wife and mother of three children and nine grandchildren, passed away at the age of 85.
Barbara was born on August 20, 1935 in Greenville, NC to Woodrow and Mary (Burton) Corbett. She received her bachelor's degree in Business Education from East Carolina College (ECU) in Greenville, NC in 1959, and went on to teach for one year in a high school in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She then moved to Jacksonville, FL and married Kenneth Theodore Van Landingham, Sr. on November 30, 1963. She worked for US Steel before raising two sons, Kenneth and Keith, and one daughter, Susan. After the children were older, she went on to teach preschool at Mandarin Presbyterian Church and ended her working years at Wachovia as an administrative assistant.
Barbara had an active role in the PTA through her children's elementary years and was awarded a lifetime membership in the PTA of Florida. She loved working on her ancestry and was a collector of coins, antiques, baseball cards, and small toy cars. She was an amazing cook and loved knitting and crocheting. Barbara could always be found out in the yard raking leaves, pulling weeds, and tending to her plants. Everyone always knew her for her beautiful smile and sweet demeanor.
She was preceded in death by her father, Woodrow, and her mother, Mary, and her sister, Julia Ann. She is survived by her husband Kenneth Sr., her three children, Kenneth Jr (Monica), Susan (William), and Keith (Ashley), her grandchildren, Jacob, Maxwell, Jameson, Samantha, Julia, Nolan, Zachary, Riley, Taylor, her sister Martha, her brother Ray, and several nieces and nephews.
