Belkis Nora Bowles July 20, 1931 – June 24, 2025
Belkis Nora Bowles, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished aunt, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025, at the age of 93. Born in Banes, Cuba on July 20, 1931, she lived a life rooted in faith, family, and love.
In 1952, she married the love of her life, Alvin M. Bowles, Sr., in Banes, Cuba. Their enduring union of nearly 61 years was a testament to their deep devotion to each other. After immigrating to the United States, together, she and Alvin built a new life and raised their children with strong values, faith, and love. Belkis proudly became an American citizen in 1960.
She was a devoted stay-at-home mother until 1973, when she began working as a sales associate at Southeastern Textiles with Joe Rabun, where she remained for many years before retiring. Her dedication to her family was matched by her faith—she raised her children in the Catholic Church and rarely missed Sunday Mass until her health no longer allowed her to attend.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Nora Pickett (Van), Alvin Bowles (Debra), Shirley Bowles, and Richard Bowles (Christy); her grandchildren: Jennifer Douglas, Chris Pickett, Robert Bowles, Marshall Bowles, Melissa Thrasher, Allison Bowles, and Emily Bowles; and her great-grandchildren: Jack Douglas and Christopher Pickett. She also leaves behind three beloved nieces who held a special place in her heart: Diana Mir, Noris Torres, and Marilyn Escobar.
Belkis had a beautiful spirit—gentle, kind, and full of warmth. She found joy in singing, crocheting, and drawing, but her greatest joy was always her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives and hearts of those she so dearly cherished.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, July 6th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Naugle Funeral Home, 1203 Hendricks Avenue. A funeral Mass will take place on Monday, July 7th at 10:00 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church, 2403 Atlantic Boulevard, followed by a graveside burial at Greenlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to attend services and remember Belkis with stories, prayers, and the enduring love she shared with so many.
