Cornelia "Connie" Sweat Merrill passed away on November 15, 2022; she was 78.
Connie was born to Dorothy and Belvin Sweat on January 20, 1944, in Jacksonville, Florida. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Belva Sue Bass, and nephew Matthew Bass.
Connie graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1962, where she was crowned Homecoming Queen. Throughout her life, she exuded beauty, grace, and kindness. She also possessed a quick sense of humor which, even during her last months, occasionally cut through the fog of dementia. To her children, grandchildren, family, and friends, Connie was known for her soft voice, a love of animals, a green thumb, an impeccable sense of fashion, and an abiding appreciation of art and music.
Connie was a deeply spiritual follower of Christ. Seeking to express her devotion, she led her three children on a tour of several different churches before she resumed her Episcopal tradition. As a hardworking, divorced mother, Connie filled her family's home with beautiful decor, delicious food, a series of very good dogs, the occasional cat, and the greatest hits of Neil Diamond.
Connie is survived by her three children, Julie G. Delegal (Tad,) Patrick Geisenburg (Leslie,) and Suzanna M. Combs (Brian.) She dearly loved and was proud of each and every one of her nine grandchildren: Buddy, Maia (Jon Flanagan,) and Carter Delegal; Brittany, Nathan (Kelly,) Kendall (Kam Easterday,) Isaac, and Elisha Geisenburg; and Victoria Combs. Surviving also are Connie's friends, nieces, a nephew, and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.
A celebration of Connie's life will be held at Naugle Funeral Home, 1203 Hendricks Ave Jacksonville, FL 32207, on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family will forward donations in Connie's memory to the "Brookdale Southpoint Holiday Fund," for the employees of Brookdale at Southpoint. Connie's children are forever grateful for the kindness, love, and care her Brookdale Memory Care family provided.
