Dawn Marie Vickers, known lovingly as "Shawny", peacefully entered heaven on September 7, 2025, leaving profound heaviness in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She was born to Ralph and Evelyn Eager on September 11, 1965, in Watertown, NY. As one of seven children, her childhood was rich in love, fun, and mischief. After graduating from Indian River High School in Antwerp, NY, Dawn went on to earn her Nursing Degree at Indian River State College. Shortly after graduating, Dawn moved to Jacksonville, FL, where she spent the rest of her days.
Of all of her accomplishments, her family was her greatest source of pride. She had "three beautiful children": Coty, Caitlin, and Christian. She was an adoring mother who made every ordinary day and milestone feel special. She especially cherished her role as a grandmother to Brynn and the "Favorite Aunt".
While working and raising her children, she was set up on a blind date with a man who became the love of her life, Joseph Vickers. The two were married after just weeks of dating, and this year the couple celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. Joe instantly embraced and doted on Dawn and her children.
Dawn was most passionate about caring for others. This was evident in the way she consistently checked in on everyone in her extensive family and lengthy list of friends. Daily, she offered a listening ear, kind words, and reminders to care for ourselves. She prayed daily for those she loved and even those she didn't know. She had a compassionate nature toward everyone and was quick to seek positivity in any situation. In addition to caring for her loved ones, Dawn worked for her entire career helping those in crisis as an Emergency Room and Psychiatric Care Nurse. Her calm, reassuring, and light-hearted spirit touched patients and coworkers alike.
Dawn had a vibrant and creative spirit. She was an accomplished cake decorator, known for her beautiful creations that added sweetness to family celebrations. Her love for painting allowed her to craft gifts that will be cherished by her family. For a short time, Dawn also embraced her entrepreneurial side as the proud owner of a hot dog cart, a venture that brought joy to the community.
Dawn was dearly loved by so many. The joy she brought to all of our lives will be carried with us forever. Her steadfast love and adoration will continue to shine through in the lives she has touched.
Dawn is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Evelyn, and older brother Gary. She is survived by her loving husband, Joe; her cherished children: son Coty, along with daughter-in-law Amanda and granddaughter Brynn, daughter Caitlin, along with son-in-law David, and son Christian. She leaves behind her beloved siblings: James, Deborah, Mark, Denise, and Noel, as well as many adoring nieces and nephews.
As we celebrate Dawn's life, we invite all who knew and loved her to join us in honoring her memory. A Celebration of Life will be held at Naugle Funeral Home, 1203 Hendricks Ave, Jacksonville, FL. 32207 on Saturday, September 20, 2025, 11 am to 2 pm.
