A mother's love is always with her children. Losing a mother is one of the deepest sorrow a heart can know, but her goodness, her caring, and her wisdom will live on like a legacy of love that will always be with us. Today we gather here to celebrate the life of Evangeline Iris Finlay, affectionately called Miss Iris. Evangeline was born in Jamaica in a quiet town called Black River. She was the third of eight children born to Myrtella Thompson and Lindon Finlay. Miss Iris left Black River in the early 1970's to live in Kingston where she started a family and was the proud mother of five beautiful girls. In the mid 1990s she migrated to the United States where she worked hard and tirelessly to help her children grow up and for everyone to be together. She loved gardening and watching her plants grow and blossomed. She was a great cook and also a great singer. Her greatest accomplishment were her children and grandchildren, she adored her grandchildren. Sadly due to ill health, on March 3rd she went home to be with her maker. She is survived by her sister Althea, her five daughters Sandra, Andrea, Janet, Rose and Camille. Her eight grandchildren Haniff, Junior, Justin, Rashaun, Ajayda, Kacia, Jonathan, and Aaron. In life we love you, in death we love you still, sleep on on dear beloved mother until we meet again.
