Frank Battles Metcalf, 81, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2022.
Frank was born on March 17, 1941, in Bainbridge, Georgia, the second of three boys. He attended school in Bainbridge and grew up working in his father's sawmill. Frank then graduated from Emory University and the University of Virginia School of Law. He practiced law in Orange Park, Florida, for many years.
As a historian and theologian, Frank was commonly found in the history and religion sections of bookstores. He enjoyed traveling to historic places, studying the Bible, and visiting homebound church family. Frank read the Bible in several languages and during his lifetime taught Bible studies at church and in nursing homes.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents and brother. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janet; brother Henry (Peggy); sons Troy (Sandra) and Donald (Heather); daughter Leigh; grandchildren Renae, Marc, Lauren, Alex, and Zack; and many extended family members.
Frank will be missed by family, friends, and colleagues. His life will be celebrated at Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church on December 16, 2022, with visitation at 1:00 p.m., service at 2:00 p.m.; and a reception following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church.
