George Noel Wilson Sr., 88, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2026 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born January 6, 1938 in Savannah, Georgia to George Henderson Wilson and Helen Ennis Wilson.
George graduated from Benedictine Military School in 1956. After graduation he moved to Miami and worked at the Miami Herald and joined the National Guard as a reservist before making Jacksonville his home. George spent 50 years on the waterfront working cargo ships at the Port of Jacksonville Talleyrand and Blount Island.
George enjoyed the outdoors, boating, fishing, going to the beach and eventually bird watching. His passion was watching Georgia Bulldogs Football on Saturdays. He would stand in front of the TV helping the Coach coach the game. George never met a stranger. He had the gift to gab and would start a conversation with anyone willing to listen.
George was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Helen Wilson, of 41 years. George was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his children, George Noel Wilson Jr. (Kim) and Joy Lee Garrett; his grand children, Trey Wilson (Adrianne), Jacob Wilson, Clint Garrett, Powell Garrett; great granddaughter, Oakley Garrett; brother, Barry Wilson (Kay); many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of George's life will be held at a later date.
