Gretchen Mary Kuntz, 71, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on Jan. 29, 2026, at the
Dolphin Pointe Health Care facility, after a prolonged battle with cancer.
Gretchen was born in Abington, Pennsylvania on April 15, 1954, at Abington Memorial
Hospital, the site of one of her first jobs.
She graduated from Upper Moreland High School in Willow Grove, Pa., in 1972. She
attended Temple University and obtained a Masters in Social Work there. She later
received a Masters in Library and Information Science from Florida State University.
Before retirement, she was Director of the Borland Health Library at the University of
Florida, Jacksonville campus. She contributed to many medical research articles. Prior
to that, she was Research Librarian at the University of Pennsylvania. Previously, she
was Director of Social Work at Miami General Hospital.
Gretchen resided at different times in Jacksonville, Florida; Malvern, Pennsylvania; Fort
Lauderdale, Florida; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Willow Grove, Pennsylvania; Bow,
New Hampshire; North Conway, New Hampshire, and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. For
many years she vacationed at Martin Meadow Pond, Lancaster, New Hampshire, home
of many friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by father Irving Kuntz, and is survived by mother Mary
Kuntz of Pompano Beach, Fl., and brothers Andrew Kuntz (Susan) of Wappingers Falls,
NY; and Jerrold Kuntz (Sue) of Warwick, NY.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her memory to the American Cancer
Society.
