Jason Tylor Cummings, age 53, passed away after a short illness on Friday, February 6, in peace and comfort, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.
Jason was born in Buffalo, New York. He was preceded in death by his father, David Cummings, and his stepfather, Dieter Hentschel. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Hentschel; his beloved wife, Katie (Hesser) Cummings; and his cherished children, Ellie, Anna, and Isaac, who were the center of his world. He is also survived by his siblings, Nicole Klonowski and Nathan Cummings, along with extended family and many close friends.
Jason graduated from Irondequoit High School and went on to attend Canisius College, where he distinguished himself on the lacrosse field. His talent, leadership, and dedication to the sport earned him induction into the Canisius College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011. He also earned an International MBA from the University of Denver.
Jason built an accomplished career as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Government, earning numerous prestigious awards in recognition of his service, professionalism, and commitment to representing and serving his country for over two decades, across five continents.
Above all else, Jason’s greatest passions were his family, traveling the world, and playing lacrosse with his long-time teammates. He was a proud and devoted fan of the Buffalo Sabres, Buffalo Bills, and the New York Yankees. Jason will be remembered for his intelligence, lust for life, sense of humor, and the deep love and loyalty he had for his family, friends, and colleagues.
A celebration of Jason’s extraordinary life will be held on June 20, 2026 in Western New York (more details to follow shortly), where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and the life he lived so fully.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wounded Warrior Project, a cause Jason held close to his heart, are greatly appreciated.
