John Oman, 72, originally from Tulelake, California but a resident of Jacksonville, Florida since 1989, entered Heaven on Friday, April 25, 2025 with his family present. John was born, the youngest of four sons in Klamath Falls, Oregon to Donald and Jennie Oman of Tulelake, California. John showed an early aptitude for excellence in computer science, and mechanics and was a star baseball player.
After graduating high school in 1970, John went to school at Humphreys College in Stockton, California to pursue his education in computer science. After his graduation in 1972, he married Jean Johnson, who he had dated since 1969, and then began his lifelong career as a computer software developer, starting at Data Technology Services in the Washington D.C. area where their daughter Jeanna was born two years later.
He moved the family back to Stockton, California in 1975 in order to be closer to extended family. After working for local businesses, he was recruited by Jacksonville Software, when he moved the family to Florida. Jacksonville Software became Astadia, and he has worked for this same company ever since joining 35 years ago. He brought Jean along on many of his work trips to wonderful places including England, France, Israel, Canada, and Australia and thoroughly enjoyed his work in Mexico, Switzerland and South America. John has made countless deep friendships and acquaintances over the years through his kind and caring personality.
John is a deeply spiritual believer in Jesus since his childhood and led his family in faith in God. He is the kind of person who showed his faith through his behavior and strength. He and Jean were able to go to the Philippines numerous times on mission trips to minister the love of Jesus to young people and families.
In October 2005, John bought his granddaughter Jiselle her own horse. Eclipse was just the beginning of Cypress Swamp Ranch and 15 equines who shared education, animal rescue and horse therapy with children and families. This became a ministry that he essentially funded, which had to be suspended in December 2023 when he was diagnosed with terminal Glioblastoma brain cancer. The ranch still exists with three equines.
John is survived by his adoring wife Jean; his daughter Jeanna Field (Chad), Brother-in-law Larry Johnson, Grandchildren Jiselle Luffman (Austin), Jenavieve Cotman (Derrick), Jacquelyn Field (Timothy) and Caedmon Field, his great-grandchildren Savannah, Raeleigh, Brooklyn and Leighton Luffman, Brayden Brantley; and his many horses and dogs, especially Jacques and Coco, the two poodles who never left his side, and countless friends and coworkers.
He is preceded in Homegoing by his parents, all three brothers Donald, Dennis and Lee and great grandson Jaxson.
Services for John will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at Naugle Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Florida. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in John’s honor to Glioblastoma Cancer research or the Church of Eleven 22 Missions Fund.
