Joyce Elaine Ott
July 1, 1932 — October 19, 2022
Joyce "Elaine" Drott, aged 90, daughter of Leona Erwin of Arcadia, Florida passed away on
October 19, 2022 in Jacksonville, Florida. Mom was born on July 1, 1932 in Nocatee, Florida
and lived her entire life as a Floridian. After two brief early marriages that produced three sons,
she found lasting love with Francis B. Drott (Fran). They were happily married until his death in
2007.
Mom loved college football, especially the Florida Gators. For many years, she and Fran were
season ticket holders, until the afternoon games became unbearably hot. Mom enjoyed
traveling and spending time with friends and family. She had an especially "green thumb" and
could make almost anything grow and flourish. She also enjoyed winning at Solitare on her
computer.
In addition to her friends and family, Mom's most fulfilling years were those she spent as a
volunteer with Hospice. She was compassionate, caring and provided a soothing presence to
patients in their final phase of life. In the end, it seems only fitting that she would benefit from
the same care she gave others.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Ray Stewart of Jacksonville, Florida and most of her
friends. Elaine is survived by her sons, Ray Collins, John Collins, Bill Drott and daughter Sandra
McDuffie. In addition to her children, Mom was fortunate to have numerous grandchildren,
several great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Mom will be missed by those of us she left behind. Even though our hearts are broken by her
passing, we are grateful for the influence she had on our lives and will miss her always. She
was one of a kind.
Her final wishes were to be cremated and her ashes mixed with her late husband. Their final
resting place will be at a location determined by her family.
