Joyce Laverne Whitley, born on November 2, 1939, in Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully in her hometown on July 1, 2026, at the age of 86. 

Throughout her career, Joyce contributed greatly to the institutions where she worked. She served for many years with FSCJ in maintenance and security at the Betty Cook Center. Joyce also managed Lil Champ Food Stores.

Joyce was a cherished member of North Jacksonville Baptist Church and was baptized there in 2013, affirming her spiritual commitment in the later years of her life. Her church family became an important source of fellowship and belonging, and she became a devoted and active part of that congregation.

Those who knew Joyce knew of her love for animals; she found joy and companionship in caring for pets throughout her life, reflecting her nurturing and gentle nature.

Joyce was predeceased by her beloved husband, Conrad Whitley, and by her son.

She is survived by her dear friend Alice Williams, whose companionship brought joy and support throughout their enduring friendship. Joyce is also mourned and fondly remembered by her church family, whose lives she touched with her generosity, kind spirit, and steadfast faith.

A memorial service in celebration of Joyce’s life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on August 7, 2026, at North Jacksonville Baptist Church, located at 8531 N Main St, Jacksonville, FL 32218. Burial will follow at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
