In Loving Memory of Mittie Cecelia Kenan
Mittie Cecelia Kenan, 101, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2026. Born on May 1, 1924, in Atlanta, Georgia, Mittie was the daughter of Owen Thomas Kenan Jr. and Nonia Rebecca Pearson Kenan. She spent her early years in Atlanta before moving with her family to Albany, Georgia, where she lived until her retirement. Mittie had a distinguished career managing the Proof Department at First State Bank, and after retiring, she relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, to be close to her family. Mittie remained in Jacksonville until her passing.
Family and Loved Ones
Mittie was preceded in death by her beloved father and mother, Owen and Nonia Kenan, as well as her brothers, Mickey and Richard Kenan.
Surviving Family
She is survived by her sister, Nona Kenan Hastings, and her cherished nieces and nephews: Luanne Kenan Segars (Joe), Ken Kenan (Terri), Missy Kenan Bolin (Jeff), Mike Kenan (Gwen), Wade Hastings (Cathy), Kathy Hastings Ramsey (Kin), Richard Hastings (Paula), Chris Hastings (Teresa), Terri Hastings, Jeff Timmons (Wendy), Diane Timmons, and Richard Kenan. Mittie’s memory is also honored by many loving great and great-great nieces and nephews, as well as extended family and friends.
Aunt Mittie’s Legacy
Although Mittie had no children of her own, she cherished the special relationships she built with her nieces and nephews. She brought joy to all who knew her, and her life was marked by the happiness she shared with her family and friends. Mittie will be fondly remembered for her dedication to her loved ones and her unwavering faith as a lifelong Catholic. Her presence was a blessing, and the memories she leaves behind will be treasured by all who were fortunate to know her.
Service Arrangements
Services for Mittie Cecelia Kenan will be held at Naugle Funeral Home on Hendrick’s Avenue on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. The viewing will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A small reception will be held at Naugle Funeral Home after the service. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery on Old St. Augustine Road at 2:00 PM, where Mittie will be laid to rest. The Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers are Rick Hastings, Patrick Hastings, Josh Hastings, Chris Hastings Jr, Shane Dukes, Scott Neal, Quincy Walley, Max Moller, Bill Gaines, Bryan Dean, and Brendan Turman.
The family extends a special thank you to the compassionate staff at Brooks Nursing Home at Bartram for the excellent care provided to Mittie during her final days.
Flowers may be delivered to the funeral home between the hours of 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
