NORMA JEAN HERRIN BUTLER

Norma Jean Herrin Butler, 79, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026.

Born on December 14, 1946, Norma was raised on a farm near Nahunta, Georgia, the daughter of Thomas Penn Herrin and Carrie Wainright Herrin Pearson, who preceded her in death. The values she learned growing up-faith, hard work, family, and hospitality-remained with her throughout her life.

Norma shared 60 years of marriage with the love of her life, Francis Dewayne Butler. Together they built a home centered on faith, family, and devotion to one another. As a homemaker, Norma devoted herself to caring for her family and creating a warm and welcoming home. She found joy in canning fresh garden vegetables, baking homemade bread, and preparing meals for those she loved. Family and friends will always remember her as a gifted homemaker and for making what many considered the best fried chicken around.

A devoted Christian, Norma was a member of Chets Creek Church in Jacksonville, Florida. She loved attending church, studying God's Word, and growing in her faith through personal Bible study. Her faith was the foundation of her life and an example to all who knew her.

Norma especially cherished time spent with her family. While she deeply loved her children, her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. She delighted in their accomplishments, treasured family gatherings, and created countless memories that will be remembered for generations. She also loved the beauty of the mountains in the fall and looked forward to those special times with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Francis Dewayne Butler; her daughters, Kris (Bob) Scott, Karen (Marshall) Butler, and Hope (Jesse) Sites; her grandchildren, Emily Butler, Margaret (Isahi) Avina, Kayla Sites, Elizabeth Scott, and Wilson Scott; her brother-in-law, Gerald (Donna) Butler; her sister-in-law, Margie (Clint) Willis; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

A visitation will be held at Chets Creek Church, 4420 Hodges Blvd, Jacksonville, FL on June 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Memorial service at 11:00 a.m.

Graveside service for internment of ashes will be held at New Hope Cemetery, 111 New Hope Road, Hickox, GA on June 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

Though her family grieves her absence, they rejoice in the assurance of her faith and take comfort in knowing she is now at home with her Savior. Her legacy of love, faith, and devotion to family will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.
