Peggy Joyce Davis Ware was born in rural Emmanuel County, Georgia on February 26, 1933. She was the seventh child of David Larkin Davis and Lizzie Dalceda Wiggins. She was preceded in death by brothers Inman, Melvin, Clinton and Paul, and sisters Thelma Powell and Helen Rogers. Peggy was also preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bob) Aloysius Ware of Savannah, Georgia, her son Patrick Joseph Ware, and her daughter Mary Teresa Ware.

Peggy met her husband Bob while attending Georgia Teachers College (now Georgia Southern University). She left college without completing her degree, getting married on December 26, 1951. After moving all over the Country, first with the Navy then IBM, (and with eight kids in tow), she landed back in Jacksonville in 1976. Peggy returned to complete her degree in elementary education once her eight children were grown. She subsequently completed a master’s degree in elementary education and taught at Beauclerc Elementary School in Jacksonville, Florida until her retirement. After Bob retired and started his railroad consulting company, Peggy traveled all over the world with him, experiencing all types of cultures, customs, people, food, and weather. A rich and rewarding life indeed!

Peggy generously gave her time to a number of community projects, especially Meals on Wheels and HabiJax. She was also a die-hard Jacksonville Jaguars fan and loved spending time at the beach in St. Augustine. Perhaps her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren who cherished her beyond measure.

For several years, Peggy and Bob served as Ministers for the Sick for the Catholic Church, weekly visiting nursing homes, and assisted living facilities, bringing the Word and sharing memories with the aged and infirm. These visits were often the highlight of the week for these residents. Karma. Peggy spent the last 10 years of her life in Assisted Living, moving from Independent, to Assisted, and finally to Memory Care. Through this entire time, the Church continued to send ministers to her facility to bring her Communion, pray with her, and share compassion. Peggy always looked forward to these visits.

Peggy is survived by six of her children: Michael Raymond (Karen), Stephen Edward (Helen), David Anthony (Diana), Rita Anne Branning (Luther), Mary Ellen, and Margaret Elizabeth; four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider doing the following: take a few hours one day and visit a local nursing home or assisted living facility and spend some time with a resident or two. It does not matter if they don’t know who you are. Sometimes, they do not know who they are. But you will bring to them the one thing they crave the most at this stage of their life: Human interaction, human concern, the human touch. This would be a wonderful way to honor Peggy.

The family will celebrate Peggy in a private service with internment to take place in Blun, GA.
