Peter William Rojek

Peter William Rojek—known affectionately to friends and family as Pete, and most dearly as Dziadziu—passed away peacefully in Jacksonville, Florida, on July 22, 2026, at the age of 87, with his adoring wife, Carol, by his side.

Born in Newark, New Jersey, to the late Peter A. and Sophie “Sally” Rojek, Pete spent his youth in Newark, where he developed a lifelong passion for playing the drums. Following his graduation from East Side High School, Pete began a distinguished 45-year career as a power engineer for Western Electric (later AT&T / Lucent Technologies). A dedicated and steadfast professional, his work in ocean cable systems took him across the globe, with memorable trips to California, Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, and Cuba.

Family was the heart of Pete’s life. As a father, he led by example, instilling strength, wisdom, and a generous sense of humor in his children. Outgoing and warm, Pete was often the life of the party and made friends with everyone he met. As “Dziadziu,” his warmth, quick wit, and playful spirit made a lasting impression on his grandchildren, creating cherished memories they will hold close for years to come.

The greatest love of Dad’s life was our mom. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising four children with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to their family. They shared countless adventures, especially their treasured trips to St. Maarten, where they created some of their happiest memories. Whether they were bowling together, gardening together in the yard, enjoying quiet mornings with a cup of coffee and the newspaper, or spending time with friends, they simply loved being together. Dad showed his love in the little things—keeping Mom’s car full of gas so she never had to worry and happily driving her to any store across the South if there was something she needed. They spent a lifetime taking care of one another, proving that true love isn’t measured by grand gestures, but by the everyday acts of kindness, sacrifice, and companionship. Their marriage was a beautiful example of partnership, friendship, and unconditional love.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Peter A. and Sophie “Sally” Rojek; his sister, Dorothy Mitchell; his brother-in-law, Fred Mitchell; his first wife, Patricia; and his daughter, Cheryl.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol; his children, Jim Ley and his wife Holley, Kevin Rojek and his wife Stefani, and Karen Neary and her husband Tony; his nine grandchildren: Gavin; Teddy; Rowdy; Ryatt; Kyle; Kristin; Kathryn; Anthony; and Lisa; and his great-grandchild, Enzo.

The Rojek family will host a celebration honoring the life of Peter on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Naugle Funeral Home, 1203 Hendricks Ave. Jacksonville, FL 32207. A reception will follow directly at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Peter’s honor to the American Cancer Society or the American Brain Cancer Society.
