Sharon "Shirley" Conerly

Sharon Lynette Conerly, lovingly known as Shirley, age 80, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025. Born on May 29, 1945 in Brunswick, Georgia, Shirley was the daughter of the late Lesley Carlyle Edgy and Mary Mavis Wainright.

She graduated from Glynn Academy in Brunswick and later worked for the County Commissioners’ Office. However, her greatest joy and calling in life was as a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker.

She had an infectious love for life and people, always looking for ways to serve those around her. Shirley continually showed through example to make the best of any situation, to love unconditionally, and to live life to the fullest. She held a special place in so many people’s hearts as she freely welcomed them as part of family.

She was married to her beloved husband, James Edwin Conerly, Jr. at the Washington D.C. LDS temple on January 18, 1979. Together, they raised their two children: Deanna Lynn (Kenneth Roy), with daughters Lily and Zoey; and James Andrew Conerly (Lindsey), with daughters Oaklynn, Harper, and Tatum. She is also survived by her sister and brother in law, Norma Jean Jepson and Ben Jepson and sister in law and brother in law Dena and Rex Hall.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Shirley served with love and dedication in the Relief Society and Primary organizations.

We are heartbroken to lose our mother, wife, nana, sister, and friend but it brings comfort knowing that she is no longer restrained by mental and physical ailments. We know that a huge reception was waiting to greet her on the other side as she was welcomed into our Savior’s arms. She will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Fleming Island Ward building. A viewing will precede the service from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at 12:15 p.m. at Antioch Cemetery 3612 NW 177th Ave, Gainesville, FL 32609.
