Susan Adel Dixon Sawtelle, of Jacksonville, FL, left her earthly body and walked into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on October 27, 2022, while surrounded by her family.
Susan was born in Savannah, GA, and moved to Jacksonville with her mother, aunts, and uncle during her childhood. She was raised on Jacksonville's Northside by her mother and beloved aunts. Susan attended Fletcher High School and went on to become a reporter for the Times Union, as well as a business owner and entrepreneur, running an advertisement company in North East Florida.
She was a talented journalist, oil painter, and famously good cook. In her spare time, you could find her swimming with her fins in Flamingo Lake or watching movies with her beloved dog-son, Blue. Susan and her husband Fred enjoyed living the "RV" life, always ready for an adventure at a moment's notice (or with no notice at all!). You could find them, on any given day, indulging in a homemade cocktail that Susan whipped up or eating something delicious from one of their local favorites.
Over everything else, the pride and joy of Susan's life was helping raise her grandchildren, Clayton (12), Abigail (4), and Cooper (4). Her grandchildren were the light and purpose of her life and she was never afraid or ashamed to be "one of the kids", get them anything their hearts could desire, or feed them anything they requested. She dedicated her life to being "on-call" for her grandchildren and would put nothing above them. They were her heart.
Susan is preceded in death by her mother, Nell Dixon, her Aunt Dorothy, Uncle Francis, Aunt Ann (Tookie), Aunt Mildred, Aunt Vera, and her father-in-law, Frederick Sawtelle Sr., as well as her dog-children, Wishbone and Poppy.
Susan is survived by her husband and partner of 31 years, Frederick Harland Sawtelle Jr., her daughters Melissa Dixon (Olivier), Meghan Morgan (Brandon), and Angela Price (Nicholas), her dog-son, Blue, as well as her beloved grandchildren, Clayton Morgan, Cooper Morgan, Abigail Price.
