Tanner David Knox, Jr. a resident of Jacksonville, FL, previously living in Neu Anspach, Germany, departed on November 28, 2020 after a long illness. He was the only son and eldest child, born into a military family in Columbus, GA on August 21, 1950. Besides exploring the new surroundings in AL, CA, SC, Germany, OK, Italy, and Maryland, his favorite pastimes included playing and watching all sports especially football, fishing, scouts, music and dancing. One year after graduation from Suitland High School, Maryland, he joined the Army in 1969. Except for two short assignments at Fort McClellan, AL and Fort Irwin, CA, he spent the remainder of his 20 year military career in Germany. In 1973, he met and married Monika Born (Roberts) of Frankfurt, Germany. His daughter, Suzanne was born in Heidelberg in 1974 and his son, Mac was born in Frankfurt in 1978. While living in Germany, David helped to create and coach for the German-American Football League from 1979-1999 and he graduated from the University of Maryland in 1990. After retiring from the US Army, he and his family resided in Middleburg, FL. After his first marriage ended, he returned to Germany to continue coaching for the German-American Football League. David worked as an instructor for the University of East Texas extension classes and he also worked for the US Commissary in Germany for several years. In 1996, he met and married Karin Jassmann of Neu Anspach, Germany. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Cecile Marie Knox and Cynthia Knox Cochran, and his father, Tanner David Knox, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Karin Knox, Germany; mother, Dee Knox, Fleming Island; sisters, Michele Knox, Green Cove Springs; Pamela Burckel (Joe), Alabama; children, Suzanne Knox (Mali), Jacksonville; Mac Knox (Kristina), Texas; grandchildren, Brayden Knox, Jacksonville; Lorelei, Maris, and Juliet Knox, Texas; one nephew ,Dominic Iannucci, Jacksonville; nieces, Tammy Shannon, Orange Park; Barbara Burckel, California; Cynthia Dawson, Chicago and numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins though out the United States. A small memorial service will be held at Orange Park United Methodist Church on Wednesday, December 1, 2020 at 11 o'clock. His final resting place will be in Germany.
